Jacob Warren, 22, is a multi-style bassist based in Ann Arbor, MI. His background and interests lie in a wide ranging variety of acoustic styles, including, but not limited to classical, traditional and contemporary folk, jazz, bluegrass, newgrass, Cajun, gypsy jazz, and many others. Warren is a regular performing artist, as well as a sought after recording artist and collaborator.

 

Jacob began double bass studies at the age of 10 under the tutelage of Robert Rohwer, Adjunct Assistant Professor BGSU. He obtained his bachelor's degree in music performance from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance in 2017 with the school's Earl V. Moore Award in Music. During his undergrad he studied with Professor Diana Gannett. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Music in Improvisation from the University of Michigan.

 

In the summer of 2013, Jacob was selected to be a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, sponsored by Carnegie Hall – Weill Music Institute, and toured with that ensemble, conducted by Valery Gergiev, to New York, Washington DC, Moscow, St. Petersburg and London. In addition to his orchestral accomplishments, Jacob is also an aspiring classical soloist. In the summer of 2014 he was selected as one of five participants in the Pirastro Strings Elite Soloist Program run by acclaimed bass teacher and soloist Jeff Bradetich.

 

In the March of 2015 Jacob attended the Acoustic Music Seminar. The program accepts 16 talented string players under the age of 22 from around the world to participate in a week of intense improvisation, composition and performance training. Based in Savannah, GA, AMS is run through the Savannah Music Festival by multi-instrumentalist Mike Marshall, with the help of guitarist Julian Lage, and violinist Casey Driessen. It also featured guest masterclasses from Béla Fleck, Brooklyn Rider, Daniel Hope, Clarice Assad and many others. In 2016 he was invited back to attend the seminar for a second time.
